Amad Diallo would like Sunderland fans to change their chant about him ahead of their clash against Millwall due to it containing racial stereotypes.
But some supporters at the Stadium of Light took no notice of the 20-year-old’s plea as they continued to sing about his manhood on Saturday.
Diallo has become a fan favourite in Wearside since joining the Black Cats on a season-long loan from Manchester United.
After a slow start to life in the second-tier of English football, he has found his shooting boots of late, having scored in four out of his last six games – including today’s 3-0 win against the Lions.
As a sign of their appreciation towards the young Ivorian winger, fans have a song about him
But Diallo has taken a slight offence to the song, as he addressed supporters with a social media video.
He has asked fans to stop singing the song in a video shared on Sunderland’s Twitter account as he looks to maintain his good form without the chant blaring around the ground.
Diallo said: “Sunderland fans I’ve had an amazing time so far and I love your energy.

“And hearing you sing my name is incredible. But we need to be respectful.
“Let’s change the song, keep the noise and move forward together.”
Diallo will be hoping his dazzling displays forces himself into consideration under manager Erik ten Hag having failed to impose himself when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick were in charge.
There has even been whispers that United could look to recall him from his loan spell in January – much to the annoyance of Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray.
Speaking prior to the win against Millwall on the rumours, he remarked: “We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
Before adding: “If he was to go back, then I’m not sure he’d be going back to play, and surely at the age the boy is, he needs to play.
“He’s doing that here, and I think this is a great vehicle for him to be showcasing his talent.
“He’s helping our team to be successful, and he’s showcasing his talent to Man United.
“I know he’s enjoying it – you can see that by the smile on his face every day now, as opposed to a month ago, when he was quite a shy, introverted individual.
“Now, his talent is flourishing and he’s enjoying himself, and I’m sure he’s not in any rush to go back.”
